    1.8-2.0

Hi, im 1 step closer to getting my new car. Im after a sri 03 onwards in ultra blue 3dr less than 40,000 miles. It would be a 1.8 untill just reading through TV and had a think about the 2.0, but what is the actuall differance between these apart from 9bhp between them and the 2.0 is 2secs faster at top speed, WOW lol. Also the 1.8 is insurance group 8 and the 2.0 is group 12. So is it whorth going for the 2.0 as i imagine it would be a heavier engine. So what is your opinions on these.

    Matt

the 2.0 was only made till 2000, was then replaced with the 2.2 engine, ask geoff/ffoeg for helpful advice on that engine as he is the guru on it!

2 seconds faster top speed? Do you mean 2 mph faster

Either way there is little in it and the 1.8 seems to achieve a faster 0-60 with it's close ratio gearbox. As the others have said, the 2.0 stopped in 2000. Personally I would get a 2.2

Do you only buy a car based on it's performance stats?

If it's for a fast car, yeah!

It's it's for economy, then I'd look at the the Fuel consumption stats.

Saves having to modify it later lol.

The 2.0 Does sound like a big engine, although the performance difference is negligible.

the 1.8s, sound the same as the 1.2s

no i dont buy a car for performance only as if i wanted performance i would go for the sri-t or gsi but cant afford insuarnce.

"2 seconds faster top speed? Do you mean 2 mph faster "

    Yes i mean 2mph.

This was a thread for advice and thats all i wanted. It would be the 1.8 i will be having as the 2.2 is big for me on insurance as only 18.

    Thanks

It may be worth calling your insurance to find out as you may find there isn't a lot of difference!

The only other advantage of a 2.2 over the 1.8 is that there is no cambelt that needs changing. Instead it runs off a chain.
