    starting problems

    hi to all,
i would like to know if anyone out there has had this problem or could offer a solution.

when the engine is cold the car starts fine i.e first thing in the morning
when the engine is hot i.e left for 5-10 minutes it starts fine

when the engine is cooling down i.e left for 30+ minutes it hesitates by spluttering and when i think it's started it cuts out then on restarting the engine management light comes on and the car then redlines at 4,500 revs and lacks mojorly in the power department .

    it's a december 2000, 2.0L SRI (x20xev) and covered 48,500 miles

    cheers
    nick

sounds like ur car is entering limp mode due to a fault - hence the engine management light.

Due to the age of the vehicle u may be able to do the paperclip method....failing that then get ur car off to Vauxhall or an indpendent garage with diagnostic equipment to have your ECU fault codes read.

To try the paperclip method and to determine if it works on ur car - see www.topbuzz.co.uk and also http://www.astraownersclub.com/vb/sh...d.php?t=104959 (a thread from a few weeks ago which will give some info on how it works)

this might be a silly question but does the ecu light have to be lit up for a fault code to be read or is it a case of once the light has been and gone off again you can still read a fault???

my light doesn't always come back on!!!
