Broken Leg - Treatment and transportation

Yello just seeking some background really from anyone first aid minded or had a similar break before.

Mum is currently down is cornwall on holiday - well now she is sat in a hospital bed.

She has broken both tib and fib clean through not far off the knee cap, now the hospital are umming and arring about what to do (and frankly me being all the way up here they are boiling my piss). Dad has looked at xrays and it dosent look like the bones all meet as they should (which to me means pin or plate, looking at location probably more likely pin) over the past 2 days it has gone from waiting for a full scan to decide what to do to just doing another xray, but from the way the doctors down there are going it looks like a full cast from arse to toe (currently is half cast, (back only bandaged front))

If they decide not to opperate it is transportation, my sister is looking to see if mums insurance will cover and pay for an ambulance all the way up here, failing that we need other options, so suggestions are very welcome

Cars in the fleet include - Frontera (currently down in cornwall as used to tow caravan and very loaded atm)
Astra 888 - Not the most practical transport but could remove front seat and sit in back.
Signum - Too many airbags to comfortably remove seat but probably more versatile other than that and smoother ride.

Oh its her right leg that is broke which probably makes getting in car more awquard as its that leg that needs to go in first (if passenger side obviously)

Sooo basically looking for anyone who has had similar breaks, how they got treated etc, medical genius's or kings of logistics.

That is my prefered thought at the moment aswell, just depends if the old man wants to listen or just do it all himself as normal (and equate to me and him going down to cornwall to pick up caravan at a later date)

They have an ocean kayak, sea was smooth as a witches tit so she ventured out on her own (must of been the first time) was knee deep pushing it out when wave came and wrapped kayak into leg.

Ironicly she already had a bad knee, it would have to be the other side that got broke.

what you could do is get the aa or rac to sort out the van
    dose your mum drive ??
what they could do is just say your dad is not a driver
an they will sort it out with a flat bed

Ooh yes I missed your other question, not a member of the RAC or AA and I am no longer sure who they are insured with (I know a couple of years ago they had green flag cover thrown in for free but no-longer sure).

Good thinking will relay the idea

To do this properly the hospital down there should be arranging a transfer to her local PCT hospital at home. To do a transfer they will use an ambulance, no doubt about it. However its usually the local to home PCT who comes to get the patient. I cant believe they are umming and ahhing about it !

They shouldn't operate down there unless she is unable to be moved safely, which by the sounds of it she is
