hahaha, they are fun as hell but pretty ermmm "elasticy band-ish..."

More commonly known as elastic band gearboxes, my mrs has one in her C2, but with flappy paddles so I can feel like Micheal Shoooomacher!

"Elastic band" gearboxes are the CVT types - GM use the Fiat/Alfa "Selectric" type which is a conventional gearbox with clutch but operated electro-hydraulically.

it's not to bad but can be a bit slow in the gear change, and can try to killl you sometimes when you pull away from round abouts or junctions as it can struggle to decide what gear it wants to be in but thats just because of it all being electrical now, once you can get passed about 3rd gear then it's not to bad.
You don't have a clutch pedal in these VX easytronics, the the semi-manual side of the gearbox is just as good as a normal manual, it's a much smoother ride LOL my OH much prefers driving the astra in semi-manual.
I am thinking of swaping the astra in a couple of years for another astra but 1.8 auto as they are a much nicer ride.
