    Astra 1.7dti mods.

    hi everybody.
iv just got myself a astravan and thought i'll join your site.
iv just started to do some mods to the van and could do with a bit of help.
iv bought a set of 17 inch alloys with 205/40 tyres on which iv got to fit but i would like to lower it aswell but was just wondering if i lowered it 25mm back and 35mm front (i think) would it rub.
iv already had all the bumpers and trim colour coded and i looks really good.(i'll post some pics soon)
i would aslo like to improve performance how is the best way to go about this, its a 1.7 dti envoy 2000 w reg
any tips and help i would be very greatfull
    cheers

I can answer the lowering, with your 17s it wil be fine dropping to around 40mm with the right offset (45-49) you could even fit 18s. There are a few members on here with very good looking vans!!

    welcome to the site mate

for a better welcome then introduce yourself in Chit Chat.

Also, even though your van is a diesel, this section is for diesel-specific engine problems, if you have a question about lowering the place for it is the Mk4 Technical forums, in the section marked "Chassis" - The colour coding should go in the same section under "Bodywork", and the performance.. well, one out of three ain't bad

the easiest way to free a few horses is the tried and tested intake mod - basically derestricting your airbox by removing the two pipes from inside it. Then swap your air intake inlet for a larger one (most people use the one from the diesel Vectra C) and swap your panel filter for a performance panel filter like a K&N. Should see anywhere between 5-10bhp freed up. Then you should look into chipping it

anyways, hope this helps, and welcome once again

Welcome to AOC... i have a 2001 1.7DTi 5dr Hatch... been slowly modding it and i have lowered it on spax springs 50/30 and its fine.. I have just invested in a remap kit and have remapped the ECU using the map they provided with it and it now seems to have a lot more power. I am going to a RR day with AOC in august so i can then see what it has given me. I know the 1.7DTi can be safely remapped to around 115bhp (75bhp standard) with around 200nm torque (standard 165nm).. Will keep you posted on what the 'cheap' remap has done!

Nope, you read right. I did remap it myself.. got a kit from ebay, plugs into a laptop then into the diagnostic port on the car and the remap gets done through that... takes around 15min.. the remap files supplied arent the greatest but still has given my car a great improvement! I can get a proper file from a remap company for £100 which will then give me even better power gains... but will be interesting to see what this map has given me..

From the research that i have done there is not.. tech 2 is purely for diagnostic and cannot 'flash' the ecu which is where the power gains can come from..

Tech2 can flash the ECU, but only with a compatible Version from TIS.

You can't get Tech2 to upload maps that aren't in TIS.
