    the MK3 GSiT

Made some great progress with the GSi Turbo the last few weeks and more or less got the car to a standard I was happy with (rear archs need blown over but that asice I was really happy with it).

I then got bored and did this:

Billings look like a no go for this one.

Basically, when the car was bought, it was so knowing that the turbo was slightly smokey. I had hoped the car would last the planned summer as the plan was to do some tinkering over x-mas. However, one I replaced the intercooler things got worse. The intercooler that was on the car had a split in every hose, once this was sorted the turbo;s been under more pressure and not liked it. While working on Sunday nightto re-align the intercooler I found this in the boost pipe:

that was after only 80miles with the new pipework and the smoking at idle had definately gotten worse.

So I decided the only option was to pull the turbo replacement plan forward. Ive had a Vmax KKK26 hybrid unit and uprated actuator sitting for a month so that will be going on in place of the standard kkk16.

So Monday night after work I started:

an hour or so later it was down to this:

Then last night the head came off with the Turbo. I decided to remove the head as well, as the turbo manifold nuts were rotten and corroded (it also had atleast one previously snapped stud), tried removing them but on the top row of bolts alone 2 rounded off and were going to be a pain in the arse to remove. So decided that as the car is due a timing belt anyway, and that I had just had my Costcast head back from being skimmed and helicoiled that Id use that.

By end of play last night the block and inlet surfaces were all cleaned up, as were the exhaust and inlet surfaces on the replacement head, and the new studs were put into the Costcast head. All being well tonight the turbo will be bolted up to the head and cams bolted in. Also plan to spend a bit tidying the engine bay up a little as I cant get things back in until the new turbo to exhaust elbow comes in

The Calibra is a work bench and is also currently being used as a bin, saving a fortune on bin bags.
