    Universal intercooler hose run (Different)

    Hi

I just wanted to run this passed a few of you so before I begin excuse the pictures I rushed them lol.

I've desided I need an intercooler asap but don't want to pay mega prices so i'd like to attemp fitting one myself.

We all know the longer and wider the pipes are the more lag you'd get so i'm going to keep the pipework to 51mm apart from the connections to the intercooler where 57mm will be used. 2.25"

To shorten the pipes I would like to use a different run than everyone has done but as i've not had my bumper off I need your help to deside if its possible.

Here's my dodgy pics.... Sorry if its your car I paintbrushed lol

I would use a 145deg bend to come back on itself then possibly a 45 bend to angle it up the rad then a 90 deg bend through the top hole above the rad.... Then it should just be a case of fitting a vxr power pipe.....

    Is this possible?

You can run it that was as mine does, but my I/C has it's outlet pointing upwards, your's does not. You may find the bend is very tight on the outlet if you try to do this.
Tell me what you've done, not what you're going to!

The pipe that i'd use is a 135deg bend... like this one....

That should bring it back round on itself and point it roughtly in the right direction... Then a 45 deg to point it upwards.... Honestly if you think it wont work just say and i'll give up lol

why dont u go the other way with some alloy tubing bent at 90 degree to meet up with some hoses at bottom corner, bound 2 be more cheaper than way u looking at it,and think mine looks quite nice with a polished 90 degree alloy tube

I think that you may struggle with the avaliable space.

    Worth a try though!

There looks like there's loads of space apart from the fog light.... It really depends how big that 135deg hose is....

I could trim one of the ends off to bring it closer to the intercooler....... Then it should be able to run up the side of the rad then bend over near the top 45deg then a 90 deg bend through the hole in the top.

    Looking at this picture.....

That 90 deg bend could be trimmed slightly and pointed upwards and angled towards the rad. Then a 45 deg pipe could be attached to that to make it straight so it goes upwards.....

    Hi,

The space issue is more to do with the bit next to the headlight, not the bottom of the rad.

Welsh Andy's method is 100 times easier.

And as for the above pic, yea you can probably just about using a 45 degree.

By the way if you are using the groupbuy intercooler, the openings are 2.5" (64mm) not 2.25".

I actually tried your method last week before PVS. While there might be just enough room (need to bend the metal lips too!), it is so much easier to just run the hoses like the way everyone does. And less restrictive too. I don't see any particular advantage in running the hoses in front of the rad.
