Advice on my 1.4 16V astra please

Hey everyone, im 17 just passed my test and ive got a 2006 astra 1.4 sxi 16V mk5. I want to increase the performance of my car, without spending riduclous money. I was wondering if anyone can give me advice on what mods i could make to give me that little bit more acceleration and pull such as a sports clutch or sports exhaust etc. Budget of around £300-£500. Hope ya can help me.

    Cheerz. Pete

Before you do anything to the engine (or the car in general) check that your insurance will allow you to and if they do, how much they will charge you for it.

If you get the green light from them then

    Derestrict the air box*
Fit a Vectra C inlet pipe*
Fit a decent panel filter - K&N, PiperX etc
    Fit a cat back exhaust

That should come in well within your budget, and give you a few BHP extra

There are How To's for those mods marked "*"

    Welcome to AOC BTW

modifying my car has nearly doubled my insurance (18yrs old) but if you can afford it then do. do as geoff says as a rough guide. should make it a bit more responsive

theres plenty of little things to do to make it pull better. but as everyone else says tell insurance first before spending.
here are some suggestions (though people will claim majority of these will do next to nothing):

as Ffoeg said derestrict + performance panel. (cheapest)
or get a enclosed induction kit (eg Viper or Venom)
    and Cat-back exhaust.
    for your budget
    or...
    Performance manifold (probs £300+)
    or
    Sports Cat (£200+)

but i think what ffoeg said would be best for insurance wise

sounds as if you have a pretty cool first car, if i was you i'd just make sure the car looks sweet. its not all about speed but looking good! I have spent alot of money in the past tryin to make my motors fast however have realised now if you want a fast car start off with one thats fast in the first place.

USUALLY, ins companies dont rape you for cosmetic mods, like alloys and tints etc ... but at 17 and it being your first car, you'd better bend over and lube up if you want to mod it performance wise.

Best thing to do is to wait a year, I know it sucks mate, but i'm in same situation ... Still in my first year of insurance, and everything is so expensive...
