Need help re fitting intercooler please!

    Hi all,

First go at fitting the groupbuy intercooler today. Didn't go too well, because I found that I ordered one pipe less than I need, also there isn't quite enough room.

So I am going to order one more pipe, rotate the fan 90 degree, and move the rad back by 10mm or so.

But how do I rotate the fan? Which bit do I bolt the fan crowl to? Do I use original mounting holes?

And how do I move the radiators backward? I have searched I found that the Lee_Gsi mentioned "using the front one for the back one" etc which to be honest I have no idea what he meant! Can anyone please point out in the pic...

And I still need to make brackets to hold the intercooler, which I hate! I have a lot of bad experiences in making brackets haha, my garage is full of messed up brackets that I have made in the past...

    Thanks.

sorry mate but i can only help you with one subject and that is the "using the front one for the back one".

If you look underneath the radiator you'll notice there is 2 brackets bolted to the sub-frame holding the radiator in place(1 on the left and 1 on the right). on each of these brackets there is 2 bolts. (bare with me) so if you remove the 2 bolts on these brackets, push the radiator back, so the first bolt hole in the bracket is now over the second bolt hole in the sub-frame and "bolt up". you are now only using 1 bolt instead of 2 but you will have gained approx 3/4 inch behind the slam pannel.

hope that helps. good luck mate

    Hi,

Cheers for the info. So that moves the bottom of the rads, how about the top of the rads? Or are the rads gonna sit at an angle?

    Thanks.

Rotated fan. I also used a piece of flat bar behind the fan to stop it touching the rad. It goes from the top mounting bolt and is jammed into to bottom fan clip. I then drilled a hole in the flat bar to bolt the fan too.

Brackets. A bit industrial but they work.

Does it cause any problems having both fans mounted on the same side of the rad???
