    Astravan; 2.0DTi Vs 1.7CDTi Vs 1.7 DTi

Which is better? I've been looking for a 2.0DTi but seem harder to find.. Although i think the 1.7DTi will be way too underpowered, but not sure what the 1.7CDTi would be like? I think most people rate the 1.9CDTi so whats the 1.7 version like?

Power and insurance are the main factors as MPG is going to be better than i'm used to on any of them i hope!

Try and get a 2.0 Dti if you can... 1.7 Dti is really slow. Imagine the the 1.7Cdti to be slightly better than the 1.7Dti. What about a 2.0 Di?

The 1.7CDTi is equally as miserable as the 1.7DTi. Same old engine with slightly different injection system. It a variation of the old Isuzu from the Mk3 Astra.

The 2.0DTi is the van to get. Far better going engine, you'll get a better gearbox, better brakes as well thanks to discs all round. I get 42-48mpg out of my 2.0DTi 5-door, and I spend maybe 80% of my time in the city centre. I've seen nearly 60mpg on the motorway.

I test drove a 1.7CDTi Mk4 SXi (I wanted a 3-door instead of a 5-door), and it was like driving about in my 2.0DTi with 3 fat blokes in the back. No go at all.

Nice one cheers, will the astravan still be discs all round or will that be rear drums?

I guess i'll hold out for a 2.0DTi, seems the one to go for!

Thats a point, what is the 2.0 Di like? I just guessed being a NA diesel it would be WAY to slow?

the 1.7 CDTI 100 is OK, but I don't think that's fitted to the AstraG.

/But if you are buying an H you'd better get the 1.9 150

the 2.0 Di is turbocharged, just low boost and no intercooler. 83BHP so on a par with the 1.7 CDTI really, but a bit more refined.

OK then, looks like i'll just wait for a 2.0DTi to come along, can't find too many on autotrader which are within a fairly good budget.. (Only after a sportive)

The 2.0DTi will have discs all round. It's the only van that does. The Di is the same engine, but as someone said lacks the intercooler. Same low end grunt, but lacks that top end go.

Cheers, looking at another thread, it looks like i could expect around 140bhp after a remap? Is that true? I can remember it being said that turbo diesels are like the most improved engines after a remap..

Are there any mods like the veccy c and derestrict that can be done on these engines?

My van is a 1.7 CDTI (71bhp) and shes been ragged to death and isnt as slow as she once was

Great on fuel, never breaks down and has decent equipment levels (Same seats as found in an SRI-T, Air Con & Leccy Windows) - Mk4 Sportive.
