Try the filter first. If that doesn't help, then check the vacuum pipes to the boost valve. If you search this forum I've posted how to find it before on several occasions.

Head gasket most likely. Main point of failure on those engines.

just got me snap on scanner out as i had a few other prob's, this is what i got,

    ENGINE SYSTEM

P0115 COOLANT SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT
P0180 FUEL TEMP SENSOR SNS CIRCUIT INPUT HIGH
    P1540 UNDOCUMENTED CODE?

    INSTRUMENT PANEL

    164 COLLANT TEMP SIGNAL WRONG

scanner shows ecu engine code as Y17DT

is this correct engine for this vehicle as i have had feelings it a seconed engine fitted..

ok back to the fault codes obviously my temo guage doesn't work checked at vauxhalls they want a wopping £27 for a new sensor, this should cure the instrument panel code and 1 of the engine codes(hopefully)

    but what is the others?

Y17DT is correct. Your second code could be something to do with the heater in the fuel filter. The others look like a broken temp sensor, probably the one on the water pump rather than the radiator one which only works the temp gugage on the dash.

ok changed the temp sensor at a wooping £30 but still not working and the fault codes still there, checked wiring etc all seems ok.. is there a common fault on these models relating faulty to temp guage etc?

Not usually, nope. Might be worth checking the connector between the clocks and the loom, it can sometimes come off a bit. When you're in there check the earth is secure too.
