    Got flashed...but will i get a ticket??

    I made this thread an hour ago and its disappeared? wierd

    Was coming home last night down a 4 lane road (2 lanes in one direction, 2 lanes in the opposite) I was going down the right hand lane on my side of the road and there was a speed camera on the opposite side of the road facing me...

    I got flashed, but there were no white markings on my side of the road...the only white marking were on the 2 lanes going in the opposite direction...question is...will i get a ticket??

    Gatso being the type that flash. The Truvelo cameras that take a picture of the front of your car, use infa-red so as not to blind you when taking a picture.

    I think the flash can only hold its charge for a certain amount of time, so if no cars speed through it, it flashes to discharge itself, could just be a coincidence that it did this as you were going past.

    The camera works out the speed of your car by the white lines on the road. The camera takes 2 pictures of your car, one at the start of the white lines and a second picture after a fixed amount of time (1/2 a second apart)
    Then the amount of white lines you have crossed between the 1st and 2nd picture gives you the speed that you are traveling at. Off the top of my head i think each white line is worth 5MPH.
    So if in the 2nd pictures you have crossed over 10 white lines since the 1st picture, you were doing 50mph.
    So in short, no white lines on the floor, no way of telling what speed you were doing

    The newer style front facing camera's don't work in the same way and they don't need all the white lines up the road.

    The new one's don't need the white lines as the distance gets indicated on the picture, then the officer can calculate the speed by using the equation;

    speed= distance
    .............time
    Gaz

    Bye bye VXR Castle Combe Edition - because it's done more laps of Castle Combe than most Bergs have of the Ring

    i dont think you will get done
    but i dont think the camera needs the white lines to calculate the speed it does it on its own the lines are for if you complain a man with a calculator can work it out from the lines

    Yes that is a Gatso - I.E a rear facing cam - these are the ones that need white lines.

    Yeah they are basically a backup to prove the accuracy of the camera. But if the lines weren't there i don't think you would be able to get prosecuted for speeding as they need to be there to validate what the camera has claimed.
