    OBD2 cable??

    hi all

my dreaded engine light has come back on again after being off for about 1 week,

i've decided to buy an OBD2 kit, so i can check the problem on my laptop.

    I want:
    • USB compatible - for my laptop
    • Fault codes - so i can work out whats wrong with the F*****r
    • Would like real time rev counter and speedo via software but not too bothered
Can anyone point me in the direction of which one to buy on the bay of e??????????

theres soo many, which ones work???

    thanks

give it some time mate, 20 minutes at this time of night is a bit impatient.

tbh from what I have read you are best of getting something like a ScanGauge... do a quick search on here first though...

As to the cables, no idea but members of this forum were working on an os to do what you said.

If you only need it to work on your Mk4 G, then get one with an ELM323 chip.
If you want it to work on every OBD-II equipped car, then get one with ELM327 chip.

I have used Talktomycar.co.uk before and the customer service is excellent. Price is pretty good too.

Digimoto 5.0 seems to be THE software for OBD-II nowadays.

I got one of the standard £30-wonder OBDII fault reader cables off EBay. I use ScanTool software which is free. Works well, I've diagnosed a number of wonky cars with it, and it'll reset the light too.

I use the ELM323 interface coupled to PMScan software - well worth the 50 quid lisence fee imo.
