    might have a turbo problem

hi guys recently traded in the old mk4 sri for the gsi model . think i'm having problems with the turbo??? its hard to descibe it but i'll give it a go . whenever i'm driving along in 2nd or 3rd then floor it the turbo kicks in but seems to drop off for a split second then kicks in again. does this about three times then springs to life and flies on.

i've got warranty with the car but i'm hoping somebody can help so at least when i go back to the garage i know what i'm talking about

My coupe turbo has a major flatspot at 4000rpm then goes wild at 5000rpm, if i reset the ecu....it dissapears...but comes back eventually.
Is this the problem as your experiencing?

i wouldn't say its a flat spot as it happens more than once when i floor it in 2nd or 3rd. it just seems to lose the boost then picks it back up again.

Be interesting to find out....mine does flat a lil around 4k.
Hesitates a lil, the pulls and then hesitates.....big flatspot....then goes wild.
Only thing is at high revs changing gear drops you back onto the flatspot.

    Red face Gutted

Just bought a 53 Astra GSI.
Floor it, every gear, boost comes on and off all the way through the revs.
    Sounds like a similar problem.
    Any ideas gratefully recieved.

Yes, ive been taking it easy this week (25mpg :O) and went to accelerate down the motorway last night with a lil pace....and was hesitating on and off through the gears.
Only running standard unleaded, but when i've put super in before it seems to run a lil better.

I've found that crap fuel makes my GSi run like a pig.

I;ve started using Tesco 99RON and it goes like the clappers with that - no lag, no hesitation, and a crapload more torque.

im lead to believe the afm contolls air/fueling upto 4k then the map sensor takes over upto the limiter. afm can go lean and cause this. more often than not it happens with no fault codes and no dash warning lights. i changed both boost solenoids and afm and after reseting the ecu all seems ok. check your vacuum pipes too because this can cause rough boost issues. fuel is certainly and underlying problem on turbocharged cars, my advice is to use either tesco 99 or shell v-power. your ecu adjusts itself to the fuel by advancing or retarding the ignition timing, ( cant remember which way it goes) using the knock sensors. hope this is of help!!!!!!!!!!!! also forgot to mension that spark plug gap can cause the spark to be blown out when the turbo is on full boost. i use ngk irridium plugs with a gap of 0.8mm. got them fitted with my remap and have had no bother with them.
