Which option would you go for?

    Hello everyone,

Just a quick question, I am not sure wether to go for the unrestricted air box with panel filter and bigger air intake (such as the vectra c pipe or the Dbilas intake) or to go for the K&N 57i Generation II induction kit with the build in heat sheild. I have saved up enough money for either option, so funding is no issue. Just wondered what you would choose if you were in my situation. I love the roar of induction kits, but was worried about the heat problem, wasn't sure how anyone had got on with the gen II as it has a heat sheild.

    Cheers

    Firstly welcome to the site

I personally prefer the de-restricted air box, veccy c pipe and performance air filter route, as heat sink is a real issue with the astra's engine bay.

But if you want the sound and are willing to sacrifice a tiny bit of performance then go for the induction kit

Either way you need to get some pics of your car up

Thanks for the quick replies, I don't realy want to loose performance so will prob now end up going with the air box route, I just wasn't sure if the generation II kit had better protection against heat sink than the normal induction kits.

My car is a 1.8 SRI Astra G by the way, have had it for just under a month and absolutely love it. I will get some pics up soon.

    welcome mate

yeah think you will find that most people will tell you to go for the airbox and veccy c pipe + panel fillter mod as it is better for the car

i have had to astra mk4 now and done it to both......

the way i see it is the manufacture has designed the air box to be there for a reason so you might as well use it .......also think that puting in K&N cones and stuff leaves a nasty hole in the engine bay......just looks like there is somthing missing ...but each to are own at the end of the day

Ok, so to unrestrict the air box, all you have to do is take out the two pipes within the air box right? I had a look at it last weekend and managed to get the bottom pipe out, but struggled with the top one, how have you lot done it?
