    Blue LED steering wheel controls

Had a play today with the stereo controls on the steering wheel.

I have managed to replace the surface mount LED's inside with 5mm LED's. The LED's are too big really and would be better (Easier) if 3mm ones or replacement surface mount ones were fitted.

Not great pics as they are taken on my phone

They look good to me Lee.

Fancy doing mine next? They would go well with the blue theme in my car

I used 3mm ones Lee and your right, they fit much better. I'd say yours were easily as bright as mine, I'm not sure however whether that's a good or bad thing, don't know whether they'd be a distraction being too bright. Might have to fit my new ones and see how it looks, my present ones are converted using blue SMDs and they are just about right, the ones I did the other night are probably brighter.

What mcd are the 5mms BTW? I used 13,000mcd blues.

Yeah they are 13k mcd ones.

If they are to bright I will just put a different resistor inlne to bring the brightness down.

I should have some 3mm ones on their way so going to do a HOW2 for the brave ones lol

If you can solder quite well then you can do it,

You need to remove 3 surface mounted leds from each control and replace with 3mm normal leds.

I did a How 2 on the Vectra 4 Spoke wheel controls over on VVOC. You could use it as a guideline if you wish.
