To anyone who has had a stage 1 re-map

After I have the exhaust system changed and remove the pre-cat I am considering a re-map. However is it worth it on a non-turbo car?

Are there any problems that can occur from having a re-map and any gains in petrol consumption? Also what realistically will the BHP gain?

    Thanks

First of all what engine do you have 1.6, 1.8 or 2.2?

A remap on a naturally aspirated car will not produce a massive BHP increase. Vauxhalls ECU's are already tuned to run efficiently as possible whilst providing longevity for the engine under all driving circumstances. A remap may push these figures a bit further and map it for performance of the engine as opposed to Euro 4 emissions standards.

Will they increase fuel consumption I'd bet so, although if you read the speil on tuners websites they all say how it can actually save you fuel. I know there are different map setups you can ask for IE more fuel efficient vs more power, but the likely hood is your going to remap it for power and therefore it will probably use up more fuel in the process in gaining you more power. Although some tuners will continue to argue that you will spend less time accelerating to your cruise speed therefore use less petrol on your journeys.

Your second obsticle is the fact that Vauxhall regulate pressures and airflow meaning as much as you shove air into the engine the ECU will compensate for it.

A remap will not take into account your new exhaust unless you have a bespoke map and even then you'll pay a 3rd more and get very little.

In conclusion if I asked myself about a remap would I?
on a 1.6 no waste of money IMO. Even a modded 1.6 although with better drivability and less flat spots I may consider it if I were rich in which case I'd bin it and buy a Z20LET.
1.8 standard no. 1.8 modded for performance then yes I would.
2.2 standard & modded probably yes.

    confused yet?
