As the title says i need to a new alternator as my one is broke. I want to buy a new one but my friend who works in vauxhall said that a new one would cost £145 . Ive seen some recondition versions on ebay but he said ill need my chassis number, vin number etc.. to get the right one. Youve got 3 options

    70a, 100a & 120a outputs

70a were fitted to non AC models
    100a on AC models
120a on police spec and some high end models

All Mk4 models bar the X20XEV, Z20LET & Z22SE use the same fittings so providing its from any model bar these - then it'll fit

What exact engine have u got? and have u got AC?

Vx usually do a brand new unit or an exchange unit.

You could however try these guys http://www.alternatormart.co.uk/Prices.htm - email for quote

Bargains can defo be had if ur willing to look...For instance I got a brand new Vx 120a unit for £35 on ebay - it wasnt listed correctly and a bit of legwork proved it would fit mine....with a little careful modification.

Whereabouts are u based? Ive got a spare 70a unit knockin about

i've got a 1998 astra 1.6 16v club, dont know the name of the actual engine but know it's a eco tech one. It has air con yes. im guessing ill need the 100a one then. what other new parts will i need as the belt sounded like it was catching or griding on something so i wanted to sort all that out as well. Thanks for the offer as well, but i live in surrey so i think its a bit to far lol

Well ur engine code will be X16XEL

£85 sounds good tbh - providing its defo for ur model.

Is it an exchange or can u keep ur old one? U may be able to get it cheaper if u give them ur old one

Id get a new drive belt while ur at it... Vx Part no. 93182266

The noise u experience could be the tensioner on its way out. Personally Id just whack on the new alt and see if the noise goes - if not - it only takes 5mins to remove it again.

its a brand new one with 1 year guarantee. I guess i could get it cheaper but my mate broke it so i might get him to pay for some of it lol. Thanks for the code. If it helps when that noise popped up the revs went to bout 2000 and would not go till i reved it a bit
