I've had an ongoing gear change and trasmisson rattle problem which I though I should have addressed, so while I was at it I thought I'd have the engine reconditioned and strengthened. V-Tuning had a few problems with the gear change issue though. It was thought that the problem was the release bearing, so this was replaced, the system bled and the clutch replaced (as it looked a bit worn). When it was all back together, the gearbox would not go into first at all! It came appart again to find that the pressure plate also needed replacing. Once back together, the gear change was spot on, but the rattling was still there. D'oh!!
Today, V-Tuning are taking the gearbox out for the third time. Unfortunatley, because they could not get first gear the first time it went back together, they were unaware that the gearbox rattle was still there. It sounds like a gearbox bearing is screwed, so Henryk is taking the gearbox to a specialist today or tomorrow to have it looked at. Appart from the rattling, it will functions perfectly, and the engine is running nicely too.
This is what has been done so far:
Rebored cylinders to 86.5mm.
Installed Woosner forged pistons with Teflon coated skirts.
Installed PCS steel rods with APR bolts.
Removed balancer shafts and blocked associated oil feeds.
Fitted under piston cooling oil spray bar.
Replaced oil pump for a VXR version (higher flow rate).
Replaced all gaskets.
Replaced all main and big end bearings with uprated SBD items.
Cylinder Head (done by me)
Removed and cleaned valves.
Exhaust valves polished.
Inlet valves polished then dulled to a matte finish.
Lapped in all the valves thoroughly.
Replaced valve stem oil seals.
Replaced clutch release bearing.
Replaced Helix GrpN clutch friction plate.
Replaced Helix GrpN pressure plate
Bled the hydraulic system.
Installed lambda boss for wide range sensor.
Exhaust wrap fitted to down pipe.
Cam belt and rollers replaced.
To come in the next month…..
Full run in for 1000 miles.
Vauxhall FS oil and new filter.
Fit Bosch wide range lambda sensor.
Install Innovate Motorsport DB-Blue lambda gauge.
Refit ERL water injection. (been turned off for a year now)
I should have the car back early next week unless the gearbox is a bigger problem than thought. Thanks go out to V-Tuning for the work so far. I should have plenty of time to run it in before PV, once run in the engine should be able to handle big power too.
