    Poor MPG

    Hi all,

Just worked out my astras MPG after filling her up and using an online MPG calculator, it came back as 31.37 MPG!!

Surely this is a bit on the low side for a 1.6 SXi? I haven't even derestricted the airbox yet which will make it even worse i think?

Anyone else's around 31/32 or are there some little things i should be loking for?

Its a 53 plate with 47k on the clock..

Can't comment on the difference between engines but most Astra drivers get between 25-35 depending on driving style and traffic/road conditions.
    0-60 in 6.5 secs and 48mpg- winner!

Seems low, but a lot will depend on how you're driving it and where... If its in town all the time and lots of fast acceleration, that figure doesn't really surprise me, if its more motorway cruiding and fast A-road then that figure seems very low - my old 1.8SRi AstraG returned an average of 37mpg for me, and up near 40mpg on a 70mph cruise - that was running Tesco 99 fuel.

That is quite poor as my 2.2 does about the same. Have you had it serviced recently?

I had it serviced a few k ago..

Will a derestricted airbox have a big effect on MPG?

I'm off to wales at the w/e so will clock it on m/way miles..

What was done on the service....?

Could be worth cleaning out the throttle and checking the spark plugs.

Is your EGR operating OK...? Another one is faulty temperature sensors as the engine thinks it running cold when its not.

How many miles you getting for so much fuel

Hello, Seems okay for me if thats average driving. I usually got that (Bout 350 miles out of a tank) maybe 40mpg on a motorway journey. Bit of carb cleaner on the throttle body, new fuel filter regularly, shoud be fine.
    I'm after another Coupe Turbo

about £5 to 30 miles sounds around about what i get. 60 to a tenner give or take. Thats with driving and enjoying driving rather than granny style. (not granturismo style either). But to be fair out of all my previous 1.1's i would get the same! even when driving like a granny. Short journeys are bast*rds for mpg let alone the engines, so it hardly suprises me.

General driving with a bit of a mix from fast and slow i'll get 150 miles to £20..

EGR was replaced a month or 2 ago by vauxhall..

On the service oil was changed/ filter was changed (not the air filter mind as i have the K&N for it sitting upstairs) spark plugs were done..

Is there a how too for cleaning out the throttle as i wouldn't know where to start tbh!

yes there is - it's actually for cleaning out the ICV but covers the TB too.
