the sxi replaced the sport, the sri replaced the 1.8 sxi and the sri also replaced the 2.0 non turbo gsi. its all a bit confusing sometimes but in rank of the highest it goes...

base models such as club, LX etc
    then the sport models:
    sport,
    sxi,
    sri,
    gsi non turbo
    sri-t
    gsi...

    i think anyway!

there is not a great deal...

    sri advantages over sxi...

    1.8 or higher.
5stud wheels (more choice for alloys)
    traction control
    ??think cruise control??
rear discs i think is one of them...

there isnt a lot of difference mate, just the engine sizes, although there is a 1.8 SXi availible...

    Sri goodies over Sxi include:-

    Cruise control
(Traction control was related to engine not spec 1.8 and above)
Map reading lights as well as open door lights
    electric heated mirrors
pockets in rear of driver and passenger seats
Cat 1 alarm and tilt sensor
    Rear Spoiler
    Uprated speakers but still CDR-500

Probabaly more, but I cant remember. I also think the sxi didnt have the -20mm suspension but the SRi does, but not 100% on that one.

SRi Generally a slightly more refined car. Obviously these were all options on sxi, so technically an sxi could be as good as an SRi, but thats like anything if you are willing to pay.

Also SRi was ins grp 9, I think SXi was 7 or 8. But actual insurance costs are usually about the same. if same engine.

It depends on what age or SXi and SRi your on about....

Early cars were 1.6/1.8 Sports then moved onto 1.6/1.8 SXi (little red SXi logo) then moved onto the engine with more BHP on the facelifted SXi that had the silver SXi logo on 1.6/1.8 engines.

Where as the SRi in early spec terms started as the 2.0 X20XEV SRi and was much higher in insurance group than the current 1.8 SRi
Some of the early spec 2.0's did not have cruise control as it was an option due to being mechnical thottle, as was the electric mirrors which was also an option as mine done have them or a Fuel computer. Traction Control and an Irmscher spoiler were all that were really standard for the SRi in the early days, other things were addes to the standard list as time went on....

Early Astra G '98-'00 - 1.6/1.8 Sport became 1.6/1.8 SXi and the 1.8/2.0 SRi ran in parallel.

No Astra-G with X engine, ie '98-'00 model years, got cruise control or trip computer as standard - the Technical Pack was an extra cost option on CDX and SRi.

Later SXi models have more kit than some of the SRis. Mine has a load of gubbins like ESP, and has now been fitted with a load of other SRi goodies like cruise control, interior lighting, etc.
