This is a diary of all the events and happening that brought about the project, still in progress, VXD.

VXD came about as i wanted to name the car something when it comes out finished.

Playing about with other ideas i finally decided to stick VXD.
It being very similar to VXR (Sports Model astra - Petrol)
I change the last letter to D for its a diesel.

    So there you have it

    Now.. where it all began.

    October 2006

Got myself a Vauxhall Astra (5 Door) 1.7 CDTi Life model.

The first month or so was just getting used to the power of a turbo
and the good economy of the diesel!!

    but that soon changed...

    March 2007

After browsing around finding out some new and cool stuff about the astra, i then went onto doing my very first mod.. debadging the boot

Also i gave its first proper wash

    washed dried, polished and waxed

all in all about 7 hours of my time, and it was worth every minute.

    April 2007

April.. ahh a big month for the car

I started with some interior stuff:
    - Irmscher Air vent covers
    - Irmscher Foot Pedals
    - Irmscher Door Handle covers
    - Vauxhall Metal Tax Disk Holder
    - Irmscher Bagdes (exterior)

Then whilst still browsing about for new ideas i purchased myself some brand new on the market, dark rear led lights :O

The car is pretty much new on the after market products so the stuff i got was fresh, but little.

but anything that went i got it
    even dark side repeaters:

While doing all the little touches i had been for the past 3 months trying to find alloys that would go with the car, but in the end i managed to narrow it down to a great set - SSW Nirvana

getting rid of the 15" steelies was great but i wanted nothing less than 18"... so 18" it was

    May 2007

Knowing the fact that the car was sitting like a tractor this month was set about getting some new suspension...

Among the mist of crappy suspension one make stood in front of all.. Eibach

and this was no ordinary set.. yes u guessed it.. it was just on the shelfs and no more

after Eibach long sucess with 30-30 drops this new kit gave me a 50mm drop at the front and 30mm at the back to give the car a more flat, stronger stance.

!!Sorry no pics of this stage but u will see later on!!

Also in this month i went about getting my electrical fingers out and changing some LEDs

the dials i had in my car were orange and.. boring..
so i added a little spice in the shape of Blue LEDs and bob's yer uncle..

now please with the inside a bit more, i went onto the exterior
PVS (Performance Vauxhall Show) was coming up the next month so i went about getting the car show prepped aka last minute mods hehe

    Removed bumstrips

    me scruffly in the process..

    before:

    After:

then another braincell came up with an idea!
    i like custom.. a lot!

so having a look at the aftermarket grilles i decided i'm going custom so, i got mines painted

    Before:

    removed:

    New Grille:

So rather pleased with the progress so far i went onto getting the car valeted... £70... ouch (but i got it free coz i'm good )

Now car being all ready and good to go... PVS here we come!!

    June 2007

well 3rd of june and PVS time.

big show for me as it was my first

and by god it was a scortching day

    pics:

also had a wee go on the 1/4 mile

    YouTube

    Now PVS done and dusted.

a couple of months went by and cruising was all good...

    September 2007

Now having the car for almost a year and under as a third driver, i looked to start building up my own no claims

so walked down to the insurance broker i use and they gave me loads of discounts etc etc and put the car as standard (ano i'm lying hehe)
and me as the main driver... sorted...

    u think?

    no... they wanted £2200!!!

i right. so a said **** it a canny insure that.. so i said what i'll do is i'll take it off the road for the time being till i same up enough money and maybe do pass plus then i'll just have to bite the bullet.

But i stop and think to my self... i'm stopping driving because of an insurance company :O

To hell with that, a might as well modify the car mega as well

so then the garaging of the car came

    and project VXD finally started!!

    October 2007

Ok this is where the plans started
I will not post them as its still mostly top secret

I spent most of this month fishing out info and details i was gonna need as this project was gonna be big and mostly done by me

Ok so first things first.. what space have we got here.. enough.. good

    lets get started...:

    November 2007

Ok so i was dealing with things on the inside but i was doing things on the outside

wanted a good look, but no aftermarket bumper did it for me.. so....

    i got a new bumper
    the VXR front bumper

Out with the OLD in with the NEW:

    and a wee trial fit

ok as all things go in the modifying world it didn't quite go to plan

few things needed changed here there and everywhere but it fits and thats what matters

also being a life model it had no fogs... yer u guessed it.. i had to wire them in

    December 2007

Ok so the front was changed.. i had the rest to do
and they swiftly came along too

also i was away to england to the LMF shop and i bought myself a nice wee arm rest

so now back to the interior... i was working on the colour of my console.

because i'm going with a Blue, Silver and Black colour scheme it was only acceptable for the interior to be blue

    Previously silver, now becoming blue:

as sinse i basically had no idea what i was doing i managed to destroy one of my air vents
so it had to be replaced

    January 2008

Ok so 2008! lets get things rolling, cruise scene is going to start picking up :O

now another wee mod i liked the look of was eyelids

    so i got them

    sorted.

also if you notice this actually covers up my indicator... so i have to relocate that
    more on that later.

Now spending a good time looking up wiring diagrams i found out how to wire up the fogs

So here is my new fog lights all tidied up and working

not bad for a Life model

    New Lights:

Wired to the cars front electronic module:

    And working great!

Now whilst looking for good looks i also had a wee gift i bought myself which brought more than just looks... POWER

So i got myself a DTUK Box, basically a wee tuning box that clips into your car to give more power and torque

    Febuary 2008

Ok soo staying with the colour scheme i wanted lights

so i thought i'l do summat different, i'll install lights

so off came the door cards and swiftly drilled holes in them and put wee LED's in them

score... erm... ah need to wire them into the car :O

a wee bit of neat wiring and bobs yer uncle no visible wires

    now sorted

now impressed with that mod... lets see if it works ???

    YouTube

Ok thats good, now only 3 more doors to do ;D

Now After A Wee Play On Photoshop, I Can Show You My Visualisation!!

The car will be 2 toned Arden Blue (VXR Blue) and Lightning Silver (the colour it is the noo).

this is a black and white interpretation:

Ok So thats you up to date

enjoy and keepo an eye on this thread

now after a small visit to VX to get my cruise control and fogs activated,

it was time to get the interior finished.

being a right pain in the rear end when it came to the small bits like the heater blades and heater controls.

but all done and looking good, and still go the light shining through for the heater logos

also got the DTUK tuning box tuned perfectly now so enjoying my new torque and bhp

    UPDATE:

So it is now the end of 2008 and there was several changes.

I got some more VXD logos made for the car:

I started off with the gear level and the centre caps of the wheels:

I even managed to dig out my mums old sewing machine

and had a go at changing the standard pillar trims into nice leather ones

I even got them embroidered just for a fancy touch :P

That added a nice finishing touch, now what else can i get my hands on.... haha

Now being as i am, i like gadgets and stuff so i thought i could design a cool 'Home' light system.

so where you unlock the car and the fogs come on to light the surrounding area.
so i quickly designed a wiring loom system and installed:

So after a few cut fingers and burns i managed to get it done, here is a youtube video when i got it finished.

    YouTube

Now happy as can be.. i was not finished

    Christmas 2008

Now this is the time everyone spends time with their families and friends... but not me.

As for christmas i got a little sat nav from old saint nick.

Sitting there i pondered on how i could install it into the car,
so i decided eventually to put it in the centre console.

I even managed to miss christmas dinner as i was hard at work
    heres the pics.

I even had time to make a little graphic of my car for the sat nav :P

    Ok so now its 2009

Nothing much is getting done this year purely for the fact i will be in europe most of the year.

I spent most of the year in Spain.
Went through France, Andorra etc so got to see a few sights here is a couple of pics just for show

But when i did come back for a little while i did get me a new plate:

    See above

But now it is the end of 2009 and i have got my car a little present, not out of choice i may add, a new turbo

really stumped why a less than 4 year old car needs a new turbo but hey ho.
