Talking GLSRi update: trials and tribulations!

well the past couple of months have been pretty busy and I don't seem to get online as much as I used to (possibly something to do with prying Brian off the computer )

Anyway, when I finally got scrappy2 on the road she'd had a partial respray (both sides, but not bonnet, roof or tailgate) so looks lovely and shiny. A few weeks on and I find a scratch along one wing - one freshly painted wing! not just a little scratch either - about 12" long and through to the primer in parts. To be honest it didn't look deliberate - more like someone had walked past it with something and caught it accidentally, but nontheless - AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!! So in she went to get the wing resprayed - again. (I'm guessing you sympathise with me here Brett!)

I finally got the K&N cone filter fitted so at least I'm not running on fresh air and twigs lol

Next got an SPL X 12" sub and American Pro amp 2nd hand off a friend who has stripped her K reg mk3 down completley (almost like "no-spec", for those who remember), although I'm still waiting on her 60mm drop Gmax suspension to swap off and onto mine! The sub and amp sat unconnected in the boot for a while due to lack of pre-outs on my blaupunkt head unit, but then got an amazing deal at Motorworld for a new Mutant head unit - mp3 CD, 2 pre-outs, and front aux-in (ideal for my mp3 player), so the blaupunkt and it's 10cd changer are up for sale now.

I also wasn't happy with my tyres - the alloys which I got last year to go on scrappy1 came with falken tyres on, but as the tracking was out on scrappy1 they got some shoulder wear, I asked Rob to sell me some new ones before swapping the alloys onto scrappy2 but he said the tyres were legal and ok so there wasn't any point yet. Nontheless they looked awful, so when a friend of ours, Tony put his mk2 escort up for sale there was a set of 4 less than 1k mileage vredesteins up for grabs off his alloys he was keeping. I put 2 vredesteins on the front wheels, but hadn't got round to swapping the rear wheels yet as the rear falkens were still absolutely fine. The plan was to swap round a bit so the falkens were on the front where they'd wear down quicker to wear them out so they could go, then put the other two vredesteins on.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway - wednesday night I got a sudden flat - front vredestein luckily I stopped as soon as it happened so the tyre wall is fine and the rim is fine, so hopefully it can be repaired otherwise I'll be left with only 3 matching tyres At least I have a nice spare wheel though, no space savers for me - astra sport steelie 15" that came in the LS (scrappy1)

Next stop is installing the 2 blaupunkt stealth subs under the front seats to supplement the rear sub (because I'm used to them there and they sound awesome, and I love them to bits ) and I'm picking up two 6X9's for the shelf next wednesday, plus Brian will be manufacturing me another pioneer door speaker - he replaced one fried door speaker with a pioneer one, but now the other standard speaker is fuzzy too so that's getting the Brain treatment next.

Still having fun with the power though, the novelty of OOMPH when you get your toe down hasn't worn off yet and I'm still surprising the drivers of large german vehicles. (most recently some lad in daddy's 06 plate M5 - hell that even surprised ME!) Never want to go back to anything less than a 2 litre now

Bye bye VXR Castle Combe Edition - because it's done more laps of Castle Combe than most Bergs have of the Ring

yeah booked PV tickets, lovely new boss gave me the time off no problem (compare to getting billing weekend off from my old boss was like blood out of a stone! got so much grief when I got back too about how selfish I was etc) new boss: "have fun!"

I also knew I forgot something - the caliper! On the way to Rob's (garage) the other week started noticing a funny smell, trying to decide wether it was my car or the one in front, pulled over to check - clouds of smoke from driver's side front brake - caliper had siezed and clamped the pad onto the disk! Waited a while for it to cool down then limped slowly the 2 miles or so onto Rob's.

Rob wasn't in so his son Chris lent me a combi van for the afternoon as I was due in work after lunchtime, so I managed to get home, while he tried to source a replacement calibra caliper. By the time I got back at about 6pm he still hadn't found one so instead he thoroughly refurbished mine, whacked the lot back together and there you go!

    I love those guys!
