    Draining coolant

Is there a drain tap/plug on the mk4 1.7 dti astras?

I have the coolant to change on my dads astra tomorrow and if theres somewhere to drain the coolant from it would be better than pulling the bottom hose off.

Also are these a self bleeding system of is there anywhere you can bleed them from. I know on my old mk3 1.4 you could do it from the temp sensor?

    cheers kev

AFAIK all models have the drain tap in the same location. RHS at bottom of rad.

Just the usual drain & flush ... and if u can access the stat without removing owt else then Id run the hose thru the stat housing in the reverse direction to shift all the crud.

No need the bleed it as it shouldnt suffer from air locks....or so everyone tells me - personally Id run it for about 15mins with the expansion cap removed and heaters on full (hot) - this should remove any air.

It's probably oil in the expansion tank, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've yet to see a 1.7 that hasn't got some amount of oil in the coolant.
