    Cool hello all...new member needs advice

    hello all, can anyone help me i have a 1999 astra 1.4 16v ecotec its a dohc engine done just over 80000 and runs sweet ex old lady car.

    ive noticed when the engine is running there is a loud ticking noise from around the back of the engine, i cant hear it in the car but if you lift bonnet you can, is there a elec. valve of some sort that has just gone noise?? its not engine knock had that on other cars just tick tick tick tick speeds up when revved

    Its the carbon canister solenoid you can hear and guess what its completely normal . I have to listen to it as well with mine being a 1.6. I'm affraid theres no by pass for it currently, if you unplugged it, it would cause errors and possibly put your car in limp mode.

    thanks very much didnt think it would be to serious engine runs really well otherwise

    It should be coming from a small cylinder type of unit which is at the back of the airbox.




    When was your cambelt changed? As its printed in the manual as 80'000 miles its actually a mistake and should be 40'000 miles. Just a word of warning. Also when you change the cambelt you should change the water pump too as its prone to failure after the cambelt change.

    im sorry but that pic is inaccurate, "eng control module" isn't sat there. That module sits under the wing.
