An ecotek valve just introduces an air leak into the intake system.

On older, pre-cat, cars which could run rich, getting more air in helped correct the mixture and produce marginally more power.

On catted cars with closed loop control, the mixture is automatically adjusted back to correct.

They make a "nice" noise but do nothing for performance or economy - if it was any good they'd have sold it for a fortune to GM and the other manufacturers.

The best place to fit it is in the ashtray. Then modify the ashtray by emptying it immediatly afterwards.

There next to useless indipendant test have shown. If your looking for cheap way of getting power then try the old resistor trick off ebay. Then bin that once you realise its rubbish.
    Its a jam thing

this is called an exhaust recirculating valve and is used to heat the air in the downpipe up really fast to get the cat to temperature quickly. If your car has one it needs it and has the relevant software to use it if not the ashtray as mentioned is the place to put it

You're thinking of secondary air injection pump.

The EGR is there to improve emissions on part throttle but it can reduce "driveablity"

I've no connection with Vauxhall but I have investigated the Ecotek valve which is sold by a third party as a performance device.

The EGR is inoperative during the warm up cycle, whereas the secondary air injection is only operative during the warm up.
