    zafira battery

    hi.
i need to disconnect the battery so that i can discharge the airbag and remove the steering wheel but, when i take off the negative lead the power sounder goes off (as it should of course). the problem is i dont know the proceedure to prevent this happening and my local dealership is staffed by deadheads who are unable to give me the advice i need.

can anyone tell me how to disconnect the battery without this happening??

no need to remove the battery to disconnect the airbag.

Just leave the key out of the ignition a good 15mins before removing the wheel and keep the key well away from the ignition until the wheel is fully in place again.

    Follow the instructions here: http://www.astraownersclub.com/docum...ring-wheel.pdf

Ive done this countless times and its a doddle - "discharging" the airbag aint necessary as such - just follow the instructions in the link and youll be laughing!

as said you only need to leave the key out of the ignition for 15 sec but i always leave it longer about 10 to 20 mins

If you do need to disconnect the main battery on a car with OE alarm, it has to be done within 15secs of switching ignition off.

Loosen the bolts on each battery clamp but don't take them off the posts. Switch ignition on then off and quickly lift the earth terminal off the post.

to provent the power sounder going off you switch ignition on leve it on then disconect the battery if you unplug a airbag with the battery still conected it will 9 times out of 10 show the warning light however when you reconect the battery make sure you remove the key from the ignition as the power suge could cause a ecm fault hope this helps
