    Jacking up car

This seems to have been covered a few times, but couldn't find a definite answer.

Where is the best place to use a trolly jack, front and back of car, and also where to use axle stands front and back.

Any pictures would be great as they no longer work in the old threads.

When you say sills do you mean under the flap on the sideskirt where the standard jack goes?
What is the torsion bar lol and do you put the jack directly underneath it?

Any one have any ideas on the stands?

its the big thick bar that runs the width of the rear inbetween the wheels- (come to think of it its the axle lol)- i just jack it up either side when changing wheel etc.
i have once just jacked the whole of the rear by putting the jack in the centre of the axle when working on my exhaust.

on the front i just jacked it up where the standard jack goes- it never damaged the sill when i jacked it up.

    hope this helps.

Ta, wasn't sure if the axle would be strong enough to hold the weight of the car for a long period, as i will be painting the calipers so the car will be 'airborn' for around 6-7hours i guess.

Any idea where i can use the axle stands at the front of the car? Can't leave the car sat on the jack as will need both front wheels off the ground.

Cheers auto, may give that a try. Was put off from using the sills as in other threads people had said that they bend easily.

The back axle torsion tube is only designed to twist, not support the weight of the car. So it's not wise to jack under the center of it

Best place is under the lower spring seat on each side, and then stick the axle stands on the front of the bracket that attaches the axle to the body shell. make sure the edge of the axle stand cups don't press into the surrounding underside tho
