    Slight battery modification

My system has finally got the better of my old standard vauxhall battery, very surprised it had lasted as long as it did, so it was time for a change.

Had a yellow top on order for ages from a local battery supplier, unfortunately once it turned up it was one with the terminals the opposite way round

With no time to sort another one out and not wanting to butcher the loom to make it longer we bunged it in on its side, strapped it down and away we go

Yay!! No more worrying about the battery going flat when I'm having my car judged at sound-offs

surely that aint good for it to be working like that because of all the battery liquid not covering the plate inside properly... ? :S

Even turning 180 deg theres still part of the loom that wouldnt stretch, was close, but no cigar.

It's a gel battery, you can mount them upside down if it really takes your fancy

Im guessing its a gel battery or similar which means it can be mounted any which way u wish - as fitted to Ducattis for instance where space is limited so its fitted on its side

Split charging is not the way forward, no space in the rear for a battery and it is a complete pain in the arse due to the rules I have follow for the sound-off competitions. For example providing inlet and exhaust ventilation for the battery, even if its sealed gel type battery. Just not worth the hassle.

Ideal world it would be great but the yellow top will be more than good enough and it's a fairly simple swap.

Having the terminals on the side is a little bonus as well as it makes it harder for people to touch 12v...another rule that I have to follow, or risk losing points. Thats the reason for the carpeted panel next to the battery and around the washer bottle...stops people sticking their hands on the terminals when the bonnet is up.

Sounds silly but the 5 points it could save me could be the difference between coming first and coming third.

Got me a can of carb cleaner, gonna attack the throttle body on tuesday. Hopefully that'll be a quick fix, if not I'll try the spark plugs.
