Correct Vauxhall Gearbox oil for the F17 ?

I'm changing the gearbox oil over the weekend .

So i went into my local dealers to get the lower differential cover plate gasket and some gearbox oil.

Now looking at Oddjobs How to i have the right gasket, part no. 90345227, but i'm unsure on the correct oil to put back in. The local parts guy said there were 2 different oils 1 green and 1 red. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed so i thought i'd check with you guys first before i drop the oil. I've gone with the green one by the way ,

    Part no. 93160548

Is this the correct stuff ?

Or is he talking out of his ass ?

Or am i going to have to determine the colour of the existing oil before i do anything ?

    Thanks.

93160548 is the green power steering fluid

Theres 2 Man transmission fluids listed:

    All except F23 - 90540998
and 9120541 which Im guessing covers all models

So my guess is one of these 2 - maybe someone can confirm

Hey up fordy mate, I used Halfords 75/90 Semi synthetic gearbox oil and added a tube of STP or Slick 50 (can't remember which now but think Slick50) gearbox additive. I've never regreted that decision as the gear change is much better since. I would also suggest lifting the gear lever surround and packing the 2 gear stick ball joints with some LM grease, made a lot of difference to mine when I did it, nowhere near as notchy as it used to be. I'll be doing my gearlinkage mod soon as well so hopefully it will be like a hot knife through butter after.

Dexron 2 (or 3) is for GM automatic transmissions. It was also used in some of the early Getrag 5-speed manual boxes on Carltons.

Vauxhall specify a DIFFERENT oil for manual gearboxes - 09120541 or 09540998

Transmission fluid is normally red - it's just a dye to aid identification when leaks occur.

Steering fluid is normally green - for the same reasons.

Those are the 2 part numbers i've just spotted in my Haynes manual.

I'm assuming i can use either of those to fill up with and it's not dependant on what i've already got in there ? ie green or red fluid.

Thanks for the help so far guys. It'll be getting the slick50 treatment Oddjob and the linkages will be greased up to smooth things out a little.
