    I think you have to take a hacksaw to the original knob to get it off. LOL Should look good though.

    Well on my old 2.2 hatch, i just twisted it very hard and it came off, but i was putting a different one on there anyway, but i want to keep this one.

    iv had a few gearknobs on and off mate, just twist them, then slide back on, have been told not to twist as u break a pin in the gear linkage or something but iv never had any problems

    its true hack saw does the job i had to do it on every astra i have had they never twist off for me grrr

    You don't need to take the geear knob off to change the gaiter and surround though, do you? As long as the opening at the top of the gaiter will stretch over. Mine was okay.
