    Another side skirts question

    I need some advice!

Im desperately after a set of side skirts (for Astra G 5dr) but dunno exactly where to start. Im thinkin of having my originals painted but unsure how they react to paint considering they may have been treated with waxes and shit in the past. Obviously a pro would be doin it as my car is goin in for some other work anyway.

I know coupe skirts are a good option but sourcing them is a nightmare it would seem.

Can anyone advise some other skirts that would be a fairly staightforward hassle free fit - im tending to stray from aftermarket ebay stuff as Im not sure how and if u can still access the jacking points underneath.

As u can tell im not that clued up on this issue - so if anyone could help in any way or point me in the direction of some suitable skirts id we well pleased.

Once I can find a decent bodyshop it'll be booked in asap so i need the skirts kinda soonish........

Has anyone had experience with painting original skirts and any problems?

    Thanks in advance guys/gals

havn't painted my orginal skirts mate but have seen it done and it aint to bad tbh. Keep checking ebay for coupe/gsi/prodrive skirts as they do pop up fairly often. Another choice would be some irmy skirts if you can stretch to them, again ebay or give lmf a buzz.

seeing as im payin a bodyshop to do it - i probs can justify spending £250 on a pair of skirts....but u never know - think i'll get some quotes together for the existing skirts and take it from there

Coupe/gsi/prodrive sideskirts wont fit an Astra G 5dr

IIRC though there is someone on here who was selling there 5 dr Irmy sideskirts, I think they were red. I'll have a look see if I can find them Marti.

    Do it yourself!!!!

Clean the skirts with car shampoo, wait for it to dry then wipe with meths/white spirit.

Then sand it with 400 wet and dry to get rid of some of the bumps, 2-3 coats of plastic filler primer, then sand smooth with 600-800 wet and dry.

1-2 coats of regular grey primer (to get rid of the mustard yellow) and then 2-3 coats of colour, and 4-5 coats of lacquer (because it's gonna get a lot of stone chips and road dirt being where it is).
    0-60 in 6.5 secs and 48mpg- winner!

you'd be making life hard for yourself if you left them on the car. You'd need to make sure you mask off around them 100% as any overspray of primer would look a right mess. You also wouldn't be able to drive the car while in the painting process either
