    Old Primeras - any good?

I'm always on the lookout for a cheapo car to replace my Fiesta runabout (as it doesn't have power steering, rev counter, central locking etc). I'm in no rush but if something half decent comes along I'll have a look.

I've seen a '95 Nissan Primera 1.6 LX going for decent money. 120k with full history, 1 owner and looks very clean from what I can see.

Just wondering if anyone has experience of these? I'm always worried about the running costs on anything Jap tbh as I know parts can be on the pricey side. Any advice appreciated. I normally have a look on Parkers but this is too old to have a review.

Supposed to be a good driving car, though I've heard the 1.6 gives miserable fuel milage. Probably more reliable than similar alternatives like the Mondeo, etc.

Though you can get some good Lagunas for peanuts now - I see 1.9DTi Lagunas around the 7 year old mark going for less than a grand. I used to have a Goonie, and it was a brilliant car.

my mum has just sold her 1.8 Primera as she wanted something smaller, it had pretty high mileage (about 75k) but still drove well, was excellent in the snow recently. It was quite heavy on fuel but other than that it didnt put a foot wrong in a year

    Thanks for your input Coo

Seems it's mine, can't go too far wrong for £400.. hopefully. Pick up on Sunday. No mods planned.

Also for anyone else considering this model - massive savings can be had on nearly new cars or even year old examples etc as we've just stopped selling em in Britain, still producing them for overseas & IRL until May but after that it ceases production. (Yes I work for Nissan and build these)

That aside, it looks a good bargain - You really cant complain at 400 notes either.....
