    Astra Convertible Mk5 Alarm Problems

Hi guys, I am a newbie to this site so apologies if posted in wrong section, anyhow, have a 55 plate astra convertible mk5 cloth top. Alarm has a tendency to go off for no reason, this morning at 4.30!! It was ok for first 12 months, then last sept went off about 10 times in a week then ok for a few months and now again a few times recently. Any ideas of the problem. Bloody annoying me (and neighbours) Cheers.

Hi Steve and welcome to AOC

Mk5 with a cloth top? Sounds more like a Mk4 to me

Anyhooo, assuming you've got the Vauxhall OE alarm , it sounds like the power sounder is ob it's way out. It's a common problem and easy to fix - check the How-To's for all the gen you need

And I'll stick this in the right forum too

Yep astra G , my bad. Yes OE alarm. Sorry for sounding thick but what exactly is making it set the alarm off, then ok for a while and starting up again. Are these roofs totally airtight and not setting off the ultrasonics? Cheers

There's a back up alarm in the passenger front wing, that protects the car even if someone disables the main battery.

It's got wee rechargeable batteries built in, and eventually these die with the constant draining/charging cycles - when they start to die, they remind you and the neighbours of their demise but setting the alarm off, usually at about 4:30 in the morning
