Angry Centre Console Removal - Problem - sorted !!!

This is a picture of my set up as it is at the moment

I've removed the screen and am now trying to remove the DVD player and replace it with the standard spacer.

However, I can't remove it. I've tried using keys down the side to pull it out and it won't budge. I took it into a car audio shop and they couldn't get it out either and have suggested that it is actually bolted in.

So they have said that I will have to remove the centre console to get it out. I'm not sure if this will work though as surely the cage which is round the DVD player will prevent the console from coming away from the dash. The stereo is easy enough to remove so that isn't a problem.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem ??

cant be bolted in really as to remove the centre console you need to get behind there to release the clips to the heater controls,
not sure if it will help but removing the glove box might give you a view of what it looks like behind?

Take it the dvd player is in the bottom slot. Shouldn't be too hard to remove the center console with it still fitted. Give it a try, is only 4 screws holding it in.

Remove the glove box it will give you excellent vision.

When I picked up my car I changed the head unit. I had to destroy the centre console to get it out because the cage with them soft bits of metal that you can push was pushed inwards into the head unit. So nothing would come out. This may of happened to you.

Just remove the glove box and all will be fine

    Amalgamation of advice so far......

Best to maybe try to remove the console.
To do that, remove the screen (thats not part of your console)
Remove top stereo and cage, you may see two screws each side of where the stereo was.
Remove ashtray and undo screws holding console on, then pull it away gently.

Glovebox should be removed to let you try and see if a bracket has been made to bold the DVD to. (someone may have made a bracket for ant theft)

Just take your time, try not to scratch anything, and remember how it's all connected up !

    Cheers for the help folks,

Had another go at it today but it is slow progress. I'll try and post a few pictures up later tonight.

I've unscrewed everything so that the console fascia is clear. Although it is only clear by a couple of centimetres cause something is holdin it in.

I think its the heater controls that are doing this but can't be sure. I can't free them though because there are two clips at the bottom of the top DIN slot and two on the top of the bottom DIN slot. I can't get access to the two on the bottom DIN slot cause the DVD player is still there.

I've also removed the glovebox on your advice, but there's an awful lot of wires in the way to get a good view and see what the problem is. I'm pretty sure the DVD player isn't bolted in as if it was, the console wouldn't of moved at all.

Any other suggestions. My cars in bits and it'll stay that way until i get this thing out of the bloody car !!

    Here's those pics then:

So the glovebox, CD head unit and ash tray are all out. The fascia has been released from the holding clips - took more than "gentle encouragement" !!

Its these two clips that i think are holding the fascia in still. More so, its the two which are on the upperside of the lower DIN slot which I can't get access to because of the DVD player.

This is the view i have once i removed the glove box:

I can't see, or squeeze in where the glovebox was to see, whats holding it in there.

    The current situation:

    Any help much appreciated !!

You can see the clips holding the heater controls in:

It's the two white "crocodile clips" that need releasing (there's 2 control cables held in one of them) once they're free from the white crocodile clips, then you'll see where the wire goes to wiggle it free.

Then you should be able to pull the console further out and see what the craic with the DVD player is.
