most remaps are relatively the same i beleive...

some people without any sense might not know you have a 2.2 engine, because they wouldnt think to look under your pic...

but i think for a 2.2 they are a rather rounded number and wont vary much between different remaps...unlike a turbo!

ffeog/goeff, this is one for you to answer in greatest detail!

Which is 'best' will depend on what other mods you have to go with it.

Generally a remap will change the way the ECU fuels and sparks the engine to make better use of intake/exhaust etc.

Different 'stock' maps will be designed for different mods. Have a look on Regals, Courtenays and Thorney's websites and see what their 'stages' involve - they all differ slightly. If one of them matches the mods you have done then you are most likely to get the best results with that map.

If however you have done something different to the norm then you may want a 'live' map done. This involves them taking sensor readings from your car whilst being driven and then making the map to suit your car. As far as I know the places mentioned above do this, but there are lots of other places too. The ultimate version of a live remap is what Ffoeg had done, where they actually map the car whilst it's being driven (by them).

Cheers Teejay, i got a full catback remus system, and a de-restricted airbox, so a live remap sounds good to me, any prices? and what are the gains likely to be 5-10-15 etc bhp?

you should see 10 at least, but the biggest difference will be in driveability... no flat spots!!!

Just looked on the courteneys website and it says £294 for 10BHP. While Regals only state for a 1.8 but a rise to 140BHP, so thats quite a rise for 1.8 from 115bhp, so i am thinking a regals remap will take mine from roughly 150bhp to say 175bhp?? or not that much you reckon?

The later 1.8's had 125 as standard, so it's only 15bhp...

Regal's rollers are rumoured to be optimistic too. With the mods you have I would expect a remap to take you from 145 to about 155 or thereabouts.. maybe 160 if you're lucky.

To see what is required to make 170+ have a look through Ffoeg's garage/autobiography.

you'll probably get 10 (if you're lucky) from good remap. Some tuners tend to exaggerate the figures a bit, and include the magic words like "...up to".

My map was written spcifically for my level of tune, and how I wanted the car to drive. I could have gone for the biggest number possible, but IMO that is just a waste of cash, if it's only any use on a RR day

TMS (Milton Keynes) would be much closer IMO

Plus Thorney has been specialising in the 2.2 since the VX220 came out
