    Throttle very juddery in 1st - 1.8 16v engine

My car seems very jerky when pulling away.

Firstly, does this engine have the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve?

Is it likely to be this or the AMM that's faulty?

    Car is a 51 plate Astra Cabriolet 1.8l 16v

    Thanks

Firstly, does this engine have the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve? Yes it does and it may need cleaning. Thats what may be causing you the issues.

Is it likely to be this or the AMM that's faulty? I doubt it very much the AMM on the 1.8's are pretty good.

    When was it last serviced?

That should help you locate the EGR valve

51 plate is most likely a Z18XE Jam, they changed around 2000 so unless he has a very late X18XE1 he won't have an EGR valve.

Look where the EGR valve is supposed to be and if you see a blanking plate you know you've got the later Z18XE engine. Or check under the exhaust manifold, if there's a big cylinder on the exhaust directly under the manifold then that's a sure sign it's the Z18XE.
