    Heater Control Panel Illumination

    Hi everyone

Am new to this site so please bear with me! Wasn't sure whether to post this here or in electrical - hope its in the right place.

Have recently puchased a 1999 Astra Club Auto 1.6 8v and have noticed that the heater control panel only lights up on one half (left side) when headlights are on. Sometimes that side doesnt light up either!

Was guessing that all it needed was a new bulb (for right side) and checking whether the bulb was loose or not (on left side).

However, when i took the car for a service to our local VX dealer they said it needed a new heater control panel and quoted me £265 which i declined!

Have searched this site but cannot seem to find anything similar so i was wondering if anyone had any tips or advice on how to check/replace these bulbs?

I have also noticed a similar problem with the headlight switch (no illumination) but i have discovered a "how to" on this site for this so will give that a go later.

Any advice would be much appreciated

    Many thanks

Sounds like a bulb has gone.

There are 2 bulbs that illuminate it.

Sounds like they have quoted on the cost to replace the bulb as its not a 5 min job.

Have a look in the HOW2 section as there is a HOW2 fit LED's inplace of the bulbs so will show you how to get to them.

whatever you do that vcl dealer quote is ridiculous. if its the bulbs thats gone getting it out is time consuming and quite a fiddle to say the least. if your not that handy or have little patience i suggest asking a local vauxhall spare how much they would charge. The how to's would definately help you out.

    Thanks for the replies

    Lee gsi,
Is £265 not a bit steep for changing a bulb even if its not a 5 min job?
Assume you are referring to the HOW2 Replace dash and centre console bulbs with LED's. Been trying to download this but wont seem to work. All the other HOW2's do though!

    Dappa,
What exactly is meant by "ask a local vauxhall spare how much they would charge"

    Cheers

    Thanks carnuts

It would help if i could only download to the HOW2 "replace the dash and centre console bulbs with LED's" i referred to above! This would give me an idea how to get to the bulbs in the heater control panel.

    Cheers

Yeah £200 odd is a stupid price.

If you could download that HOW2 it would help loads.

Takes about an hour to get to I would say or maybe a bit longer if you havn't done it before.
