    Low beam

H7 is the standard bulb size, but does anyone on here know if I might also use bulbs including a socket? If so, would 9007 be the same as H7, the only difference being that the bulb comes with a socket inncluded? Am I making any sense?

I'm talking about the driving/main lights of a 2003 Astra Estate.

the H7 has a "cap" on the bulb to stop light being thrown forward from bulb so you can use it as dipped.

the 9005 hasn't got the cap you it's used for the main beam

    they aren't really interchangeable

Thank you, but I was referring to the 9007, not the 9005 The 9005 is for high beam. On high beam I have a choice of two different types, HB3 and 9005. On high beam for instance, what I need to know is what the difference is between the two types. Is the HB3 the bulb only, and 9005 the bulb including the plastic socket that plugs to the wire? And if so, on main beam, would the 9007 be the same as H7, only with a plastic socket?

Maybe I'm just a bit dense here, or this is more complicated than it seems

Sorry, I misread the original Q.

9005 and HB3 are the same bulb, it's just two different ways of describing the same thing.

As for H7 and 9007, they are two different bulb designs and I'm not sure that there are directly interchangeable. even if the phyiscally fit, the filament might not end up at the focal point of the reflecotr and that would make the beam go odd

Okay, thanx for clearing that up for me. You see, this is all related to me having bought a xenon conversion kit on Ebay. I figured fitting was straight up, and ordered an H7 kit but when I got it it didn't fit at all. The original idea was to buy sets for low beam, high beam and fogs. Have a look at the link, please, and scroll down the page to see the different types of bulbs. If you find a type of bulb that would fit my low beams, please, feel free to tell me which one it is
