    selectring reverse sounds rough

whener i first get in my car in the morning, if i put it into reverse with my foot properly on the clutch and select reverse normal, it sounds like it drags a bit.

however if i put my foot properly on the clutch and select reverse carefully and a bit slower, it selects fine

just wondered why it sounds rough when i select reverse normal as every other gear

Its all to to with the Synchro-mesh in the gear box. All forward gears have a helical construction so the slide together even if the the teeth of the gears are not fully aligned. The curve on the cogs in the gear box pull the gears together. Reverse doesnt have this so if the teeth are not aligned they grind until they lock then you get a kind of klunk.

If it's crunching into reverse then that's not normal, possibly caused by slight clutch wear, yes selecting reverse is not as smooth as 1st but it shouldn't crunch

just hold the clutch down for longer to slow the cogs down more, it wont crunch then
