Alloys...can these be DIY refurbed? (pics)

These have been wrapped up and put away over the winter...The damage looks quite minimal so I was thinking of having a go refurbing them myself using the method in the how-tos...

Any thoughts? Tyres off? Re-spray all 4 wheels or just touchup the damaged bits?

    Nice wheels those.
I refurbed my snowflakes last year and going by those photos, mine were in a worse state than that so yep, go for it.
My edges were mullered on 2 of the wheels and I ended up taking them back to bare metal, but by rubbing back I found that there was a fair thickness of paint anyway, so the more I DA'd the paint, the less pronounced the scuffs.
When I got back to bare metal I used etch primer, making sure it went in to any reamining scratches and then built up with a stopper filler (u-pol top stop IIRC) and then smoothed back.

refurbering places are asking £200 which i think is a bit much

what did you do regards to paint? and did you take the tyres of?

I bought them off a user on here and luckily the tyres were already off. This makes the job so much easier and will help give a job that will last longer. With the tyres off you can 'wrap' the paint/primer etc around the rims that the tyres sit on so that when you wash them you aren't scuffing up an edge of paint, as the edge is under the tyre, if u know what I mean.

£200 doesn't actually sound to bad TBH,if they do a nice job. I spent a fair bit on:-
    Etch primer
    Highbuild primer
    Normal primer
    Basecoat
    laquer
    Sanding discs/sheets
    Panel wipe
    tack cloths
    It all adds up!
etc etc, some of which I have leftover for my next set. I'm afraid If you want to do a nice job that will last, it will still cost you even doing the work yourself
I did a nice job and the MRs is doing a nice job of kerbing them

Going in your favour, the wheels look a nice shape to work as I found the snowflakes a bit of a pain sometimes.

yehh i got a quote from them before still think its a bit too pricey considering the small ammount of damage...

i was budgeting around £50-60 for all the primer/lacquer/sandpaper etc, and about £30-40 to get the tyres removed/refitted/balanced...still a fair bit cheaper

problem is...if all of the wheels needs respraying its guna cost even more in paint...was hoping that i could find a colour match seeing as they should be an OEM colour and just spray the damaged parts maybe?

In that case, take your time and do a nice job on them.Mine took about 6-7 weeks just pratting about on them when I could as i was in no rush due to the fact I've got another couple of sets kicking about.

Great sense of satisfaction at the end of it mind you

    makes storing them easier too
    as you can stack them

use metal putty on bare metal rather than stopped
and use a da/sander or youll be there all day.

before primer you want the surface to be 400
after primer you want the surface to be 600-800
