    ford advice please,

looking to get my other half a newer car and been looking around today and ford focus's look ok for the money,
seen some nice ST170's and wondered if there is anything i should watch out for? any common probs?

dont really need a ST tbh but its the best looking of them (needs to be a 5dr tho) but having no experience with a ford at all would like any info i can get, tbh a 1.6 LX would be fine for her but like the looks of the ST170 and tbh i wouldnt mind one as a second car, but is there any model with the sporty looks but no leather/same engine?

Focus is a good car, and I can tell you they hold up well in a car crash (heven forbid)

Just the usal list of checks to do before buying one. The zetec engine can get a little smokey if high milage or unserviced or uncared for.

    its a duratec engine.
no common problems ive seen with any in my 3 1/2 years working in a ford dealer.
3 techs at our place run them and love them to bits.
tbh if i wasnt running my van id be looking for an ST estate myself.
    sound motor and very nippy.

looked at a few today, they are nice but as its for my other half we are now thinking more of getting a 06 plate sport instead as a 06 Sport, was the same price as a 52 ST170 so the sensible thing would be to get the sport,

but again might just get a cheap corsa or something, but if anyone else has any advice on the focus it would be helpful,

The focus is a good car.

Any reason to pics up lol.

I only had the 1.6 but did not have a single prob in the three years i had it.

But a few friends have the st170 and they also have had no probs with them. Ford did do a ecu update on em for a slight running prob but on a 52 it will have been done.

To be fair they aint a bad car if you going to keep engine standard, but if planning on any engine mods dont bother.

I've been running a 00-reg 2.0ltr Ghia for over a year now as a work car. Can't really fault it. Great drive and feels sporty, good boot and fairly safe.

Really just the usual checks the ST is nice but you do have to rev the nuts off of it to really get the benefit.

If i was in your situation i would buy one of the last older shapes 53-reg?? Get the ghia with the toys, also I would go for the diesel (put one up against my 2.0ltr petrol and was suprised to see it hold its own) and you should have many years trouble free.
