Buying SRiT, what do you think?

    Hi all,

Been lurking for a while, looking at buying an SRiT

Advertised for £6700 (he has said £6500 to me, to get it gone)
    - Flame Red
    - 29k miles
    - Bailey's Dump valve
    - Tinted Windows
    - 6 months Tax
    - FSH

However, after having the RAC look at it (250 odd miles from me - to far to have 2 journeys) the following has come up
    - MOT due 8/2 (Week and a half odd)
    - 2 Dents (which he told me about, £280 quote to fix)
    - Needs ALL brakes replaced (Discs and pads allround)
    - Needs 4 new tyres
    - Cambelt not been done (due 4 year change)

What do you reckon I should offer him? Not really bothered about tyres, as will be getting alloy's anyway, but it's a bargaining tool.

    4*Toyo 215/40/17 @ £69 = £276 (Plus fitting, balancing etc)
    All new brakes = £140ish + Fitting
MOT = At least £45, and any work!
    2 Dents = £280
Cambelt = £230 from Thorney, not inc water pump

Grand Total = £971! Plus more for fitting!

Was thinking of offering £5600 - £5700, paying no more than £5900 - £6000, depending on condition. What do you guys think, is this fair? What about the price in the first place, is it reasonable?

    Cheers

    Chris

sounds like it needs some work doing on the car, for what work it need i would get quotes for what it needs then show him then and see what happens but i would be wanting some money knocked off.

You better hope he's not reading this On a serious note you should get accurate prices on the work that needs doing or ask him to put a full MOT on the car and work from there. Good luck mate and keep us posted.

Cambelt doesnt need doing til 40k miles IIRC so you're talking a good year before it becomes a worry
Go too low and he'll lose interest in you mate, If yer not bothered bout tyres try him at £6200, theres no way Id drop £1000 off the advertised price TBH mate

Yea, its the one in Ashington. Cambelt will need doing as it's a 40k / 4 year jobbie if I remember rightly? Or is it just 40k? Prices for tyres, cambelt and dent removal are accurate, all proper quotes!

I know that amount off may be a bit cheeky, but the MOT is due soon, have already discussed him putting MOT on and he doesn't have the money around I think, just bought a new house from what I gather. Will need the work doing asap, as I work to far away to not have a car!

id say £6500 was a fair price to begin with tbh its an extremely rare car with low mileage considering its 5 years old. Yes it has a few dings but id be over the moon to get it for £6400 if i was you.

Was £146, as I'm an RAC member - don't know how much if not, around £160 I think!

Don't know if I would recommend it though to be honest, was not at all what I was expecting! Got it as it's the first turbo motor I've bought, they seemed to just ignore it! Oh well, lesson learnt!
