i heard that z20let engines can have 750 and 1000hp with vmax's special pistons, turbo's, manifold's and software system. Do u ever seen car that have these specifications? u can see results in there www.vmax.de/html/frame-haupt.html
i suppose anythings possible but regular rebuilds in the engine and wallet department will be a must!
previous car - SRI Turbo
new car - Focus RS
I wouldn't have said 750 bhp would be possible on a LET and definatlely not 1000!! Just look at a skyline. They have 6 cylinders 2.5 L and Twin Turbos. They have to be completely rebuilt and even then they are not reliable at 1000 bhp....
I'd say 400 tops....
Arden Astra GSI - Phase 3.5
EDS Phase 3.5 288 BHP 340 FT/LB
Inlet cam and Dbilas manifold.
There 2.6, the thing to do on them is a single turbo conversion (BIG turbo) I reckon a complete rebuild will get the Z'LET to 600-700 but it will mean alot of work! Cossie engine can be tuned to 700+ bhp. The old 1700 BDT and 2100 BDT's in RS200's will make 1000bhp-ish.Originally Posted by Enkidu
enkidu, skyline can more than it. there are a lot of examlpes. and when i talked vmax they said that z20let can have this power with GT40R turbo and paying 2999eur.
You'd have to change so much in and around the engine to produce the power you mention that it probably wouldn't even closely look much like a Z20let.
yes. i know but we are talking about 1000ps. of course it would not look much like a z20let. but this is normal for every engines. The main thing is you can have 1000ps in your astra...Opel Speedster/Astra Z20LET Turbolader

U also got to think how ur gona put this power down, the front wheels wouldn't handle it! Ur talkin 4wd but how? Maybe calibra 4wd system? Or project similar to Pete's. Bug Bucks and time
wellllll there are Evos running close to 1000bhp in this contry, and there are some more in the US!
cossys are running at around 800-850bhp.
it will be possiable but you need to think how your going to do it! first off the blosk will have to have some makour work done to it! i would go for some kind of ductile iron liner. now i know this sounds stupid but its forms a better starting poeint for making BIG power than normal iron. also menas you can shrink the bore a touch and run more material around the combustion chamber!
than you going to the bottom end. well frankly yougoing to need new everything. last time i check vauxhall did intend the z20let to be used as a race unit. Ford, Mitsubish and nissan DID with their engines!!!! os thats a new Custom Crank, new rods and some VERY strong pistons. you going to need think crowns and think ringlands to tkae the cylinder presure!! plus you have to play to the engines advantages. 2.0ltr units are never going to turn BIG pwoer at low rpm! its easy (ish) to get 1000bhp @6500rpm with 5.7ltr + but not so easy with 2.0ltr!!
sooo your going to have to spin the NUTS of the engine. alot of the Evo drag races out there that go for 2.0ltr units ar running claoe to 10,000rpm! as are some of the BIG bhp FWD honad guys.
this menas you going to need a good flowing cylinder head. i would recomened getting someone like SBD to do the work. they did an amzing 1.6 ecotec engine. they basically welded the head up and re ground the portsto the shape they wanted! this is great on smaller engine cars, butyou are still llimited with the amount of material there is in the head! ports can only be sooo big before you start to cut into water ways! also you going to need some BIG vavles and some really high lift cams!
next you get the turbo, well it has the be the GT42R (cant remeber the exact number but the cold side is GT42 and can flow over 1000bhp) its probalbe the only way your going to get the thing to spool. but should make loads of power at the top end. this unit has been tried and tested on the Evo.
then your going to need a fuel system and engine maigment. and the gearbox is going to have to be something very special. plus you have to decide what fuel your going to run. i would go for pure methanol simply to keep the thermal stress of the engine. and you might want so N2O in ther eto help out!
you have to remember BIG power form ANY engine cost BIG money! a much easy way would be to use a big block that can make 1000bhp on mormal fuel. then you can stick 300bhp on top of that to make up for the extra weight! that will set you back around $30K!
Vmax were running a 750bhp Z20LET in e BMW 3-series shell a few years back.
