    Question Z20LET balancer shaft removal.

Has anyone done this? It should be fairly straight forward to do from what I can tell, but does anyone have any experience of it or any photos. I believe there are a few oil feeds which are designed to lubricate the shafts, these need to be bunged up I guess.

    It can be done.

I've spoken to the guys at 888 a few months ago. Apparently with the agro of removing them and then changing the pistons and rods, then while its out fitting oil sprays, then re-balancing it all, etc, etc, you'd be better to buy a leh short engine.

There are a few that have done this in Germany iirc - there can be a few problems with the crank shattering as it isn't designed to run without the balancer shafts. I was faced this this dilemma a while ago and decided that a LEH transplant (which has no balancer shafts) was the easiest way forward. I'm sure that it can be done Mike, but there may be other consequences, especially if you're going for more power.

    Very easy job,

    Remove balancer shaft assembly
Drill and tap the 4 oilways(2 on each of mains cap 2 and 3) to M8 thread
    Loctite in M8 grub screws
Install mains girdle from early XEV engine(same part as used on LEH and XER engines) with oil plate
Use oil pick up pipe from XER engine
