Ah not good! i used to have a variable rate mortgage but my monthly payment went up over £100 a month in the space of a year so i now have a fixed rate, i may pay a little more than everyone else when the rates are low bit i dont have too worry about increases anymore, i used to be fixated on the bank of englands web site every month checking to see if it was bad or good news, not fun!
I change my mortgate every 2 years now to make sure i get the best deals available, maybe you could look at changing mortgage's?!?
Can put you in touch with a very good (no fee) independant adviser if you want, i use this guy all the time he's fantastic, always gets me the best deal with the lowest rates.

ah well, this isn't really going to help first time buyers, will mean huge mortgage repayments. Will mean my savings rate increases though.

just renewed my mortgage with the Halifax today, I had a quote the other day which they honor for 2 months, so quite lucky there, although I'm ot sure that particular fixed rate product had changed after the rise anyway.

amazing, I can get a bank loan for not much more than a mortgage, where the mortgage is obviously a very long term loan so you would hope the rate would be lower, still they're not going to lend money for less than they can get just sitting on it :rolleyes
