I've always found IXUS cameras from Canon really good, good enough for my big brother to ditch his cyber shot (not sure which model) and get one.IXUS in the USA is the SD range IIRC.
Bear in mind that the warranty probably won't be transferable to the UK.
Do not buy from a company called Digigood, I am in the process of being ripped off by them (or so they think) they sell 2nd hand stuff as new.
    Hope this helps.

What type of camera DSLR or another type of compact?

    Also what is your budget?

Should clarify that both Fuji's posted on this thread are not DSLR's. They are bridge cameras, with a little practice you can get great pics from the S9600. Look out for the 9500 which is the previous model (I don't think the differences are huge) as you can pick one up for £250. In the states the Fuji S9500 is called the S9000 and the S9600 is called the 9100.

how come people are recomending the Fuji's as Digital SLR's? arnt they all fixed lens for a start?

I am dedicated to Nikon, all my Film and Digital Cameras and now my DSLR have been nikon, cannot knock them at all.

You can get a fairly Cheap Nikon D50 and lens in New York I rekon, just becareful where you go, I picked up a samsung camcorder over there, and they near enough locked me in the shop until i agreed to spend more on a different one.
Digital Camera World the place was called, dont let them see a credit card!!

Have fun over there its great, make sure you come back with a nikon
