good insurance companies for first time drivers?

Any one got any names or numbers for good companies to use for first time drivers?

Lad at work needs cover on my old Mk2 golf 1.6 driver, he is 24 and lives at home. He past his test in December 2006.

    Any gen would be great

tell him to go onto moneysupermarket, compares a hell of a lot of sites and gives the cheapest for what he wants, im currently with Quinn direct which were the cheapest i could get at my age but being 24 he could probably get cheaper, its a long shot i know but it might pay off

Norwich Union are good for first timers mate but we all know their customer service is far from adequate.
I found Budget Insurance to be pretty decent on price too for a young un.
Finally Im with Endsleigh at the mo who are unbelievably cheap for someone whos bin driving 3yrs but Im not sure what theyre like for first timers TBH

cheapest so far is Elephant @ £886.00 third party fire and theft, without pass plus.

Ouch, but then again u live in or near a big city.

Elephant/Admiral/Bell are usually cheap (same company).

Confused.com will give a good overview of many companys prices etc

Tesco & TheAA are other good alternatives.

His age will give him some benefit but you are looking at a Golf and a 1.6. My first years insurance with pass plus on a 1.3 KA2 £1350
