    2.0 16v vs 106 gti

im just really interested to know which car should be quicker in a straight line on paper?

i know the pug weighs a fair bit less and has roughly the same power but i embarresed one of my mates yesterday (on a long straight private road) in his 106 Gti which has recently had the head polished or somethign like that he said??

My astra has a Vec C intake, panel Filter and a cat back exhaust system.

i dont want this to turn into an arguement by the way lol

In a straight line the 106 will win to 40-50mph, but then the Astra will come tonking past and will beat the 106 to 80mph by a long way. The peugoet's have sh1t gearboxes!!
Round corners you'd struggle to keep up with the 106 in standard form though. With uprated suspension you may have a chance, but still unlikely!!
    0-60 in 6.5 secs and 48mpg- winner!

bad driver?? short-shifting?? 106 running badly??

was he far behind, or even in danger of catching you at any point??

it seems simple, but the best 'power-gain-mod' I have ever done to any car is a cambelt change!!!

I have had a 2.0 astra for 2 years and trust me a 106 GTI running properley would absolutely kill it.

I had a 1.8 sxi last year and raced my firend who has a 106 gti and i wiped the floor wit him. I had 130bhp he had 115bhp but i was 10car lengths ahead in the end. so the 2.0 would be even better.
