rover 214si bubble goes stone cold

bit long so bare with me guys and gals. found recently that at idle on the missus rover temp was going up and just kept going up even with fan in. so traced fault to blocked rad. replaced rad now doesnt overheat but gets up 2 temp then goes cold ie right back down to the cold line and also the heater will go cold. its not getting up to the temp for fan to cut in so dont think its that. there is no air in the system and ive bleed it twice and removed the 8mm bolt and pure coolant and no air. checked all hoses and all are the same temp but not what id call HOT. any ideas and cheers for any replys as most rover/mg forums are terrible. andy

still sounds like some kind of blockage or even a sender fault for the temp gauge

Could it be a fault thermostat opening to soon and staying open?

If you leave the engine running for as long as needed does it get up to temp and he fan cut in alright?

Dicky thermostat. When the heater goes cold after inital warm up, how long do you let the engine run for to see if it will heat up again?

My old rover 214 was a bugger for gettin air pockets in the cooling system, had to keep running it and topping up for ages! I think there was a bleed valve somewhere.

ive used the bleed valve and i can do 30 miles and it will go up and down several times not just once. i flushed the system clean and bleed it as i would normally and used the bleed valve on the pipe and still got problems yes the fan cuts it and not to early either so i think its holding an air lock still. im gona re bleed it later and raise up the header tank to see if that helps.
